Scientific Margarita Salas has already a boulevard with its name in the PTA
The scientific Margarita Salas, Doctor Honoris causa by the University of Malaga (UMA) has a boulevard with its name in the Technological Park of Andalusia (PTA) of Málaga. She attended to the inauguration of the boulevard and took advantage from the situation requesting more confidence from public institutions to invest in research.
The Spanish researcher, after a long international career, in which she was a disciple of Severo Ochoa, directs the laboratory of the Centre for Molecular Biology at the Autonomous University of Madrid. Previously to the inauguration she gave a lecture in the science and technology center in PTA where sixty persons listened to the origins of their area researcher and the challenges it faces when cure diseases.
In both events she has been accompanied by the rector of University of Malaga, Adelaida de la Calle; Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; PTA president, José Luis Ruiz Espejo; the director of the technopolis, Felipe Romera; the delegate of Equality, Health and Social Policies, Daniel Pérez; and Enrique Viguera, university professor and was godfather to Margarita Salas at the investiture ceremony of the UMA.
Salas has been very pleased and flattered with the distinction and stressed that the investigation "does not work in the short term, rather long, but if we do not invest in it now, in five or 10 years we will have nothing."
During his visit to PTA, Salas has also visited the Andalusian Centre for Nanomedicine and Biotechnology (BIONAND), where he met with its director, Jose Becerra, accompanied by the president and director of PTA.
