A European Project encourages the development of technologies to improve the quality of life of elderly people

The PTA hosted the presentation of WIDER, a program which aims to look for innovative Solutions for the promotion of an active and healthy ageing

To present the results obtained through the WIDER European project, the Technology Park of Andalusia (PTA) in collaboration with the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) has promoted the realization of a series of conferences in different countries of the Mediterranean area.

This program, which involves ten partners from seven countries, aims to support companies in the exploration of business opportunities for elderly people, a growing segment of the population which require specific solutions for active ageing.

Its main objective is to contribute to the identification and strengthening of the capacities of innovation and knowledge as well as the creation of networking among SMEs in the Mediterranean area to improve the position of their new products and facilitate the daily life of elderly people in an efficient way.

In the framework of this project, the PTA will develop a cycle of conferences, as well as a visual display of the project in technology parks from six European countries to promote the program and the participation of companies and organizations in the development of this type of technology.

Countries in which the sessions will be developed are Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.

The PTA has hosted last Tuesday 28th of April 2015 the second day of presentation, after the one which took place recently in the Technology Park of Patras, in Greece, with nearly fifty people.

In addition to the dissemination of the results of the project, two case studies of companies which have developed innovative solutions applicable to the elderly sector, such as Metrica6 (from Malaga), with its water-saving device, or the Portuguese company Smart Kit, that has developed a smart pillbox, were also presented during the event.

Focusing on the coming weeks the remaining presentation events will be held, as well as the final conference of the project, which will take place in Brussels on 21st of May. At this Conference, each of the project partners will be accompanied by a company which provided some innovative solutions to improve the quality of life of elderly people.
