‘UMA Aula Online’, The University of Málaga’s New Digital Learning Initiative

  • The rector presents a platform designed to facilitate lifelong continuing education

The rector of the University of Málaga, Teodoro López, has presented ‘UMA Aula Online’, a web portal promoted by UMA InnTech Office and the Vice-Rectorate for Doctoral and Postgraduate Studies. Designed to support lifelong professional upskilling and reskilling, the platform provides easy and intuitive access to all online continuing education programs offered by the University of Málaga.

During the presentation, the rector described the new platform as a “strategic and necessary” project and emphasized the importance of lifelong learning in a social context that demands “constant renewal of knowledge and skills”. The Vice-Rector for Doctoral and Postgraduate Studies, Salvador Pérez Moreno, and the rector’s delegate for Technological Innovation, Javier López, accompanied him.

Pérez Moreno highlighted the University of Málaga’s robust and comprehensive portfolio of continuing education programs, calling it “a high-quality offering designed to meet current labor market demands.”

The course offerings include postgraduate programs, university extension courses, and micro-credentials, aimed at both university graduates and the general public. These programs are delivered in in-person, hybrid, and online formats, tailored to the professional and personal needs of students. “The demand for online education continues to grow because people are looking for learning models that fit their lifestyle and pace,” he explained.

He also emphasized the key role of micro-credentials, a format endorsed by the European Commission and actively developed at the University of Málaga for over a year. These short, modular programs certify specific competencies and already include over 30 active programs at the university, many of which are available in online or hybrid formats. They are short, flexible, and stackable courses, designed to help learners acquire in-demand skills in a targeted and practical way.

Accessible and intuitive technology

Javier López, the rector’s Delegate for Technological Innovation, presented the platform’s origins and technical features. The design, he noted, emerged directly in response to the needs expressed by companies based in the Andalusia Technology Park, Málaga TechPark. “We wanted to create a learning environment that meets real business needs, especially in an ecosystem where continuous learning has become a strategic tool for business competitiveness,” López explained.

The portal offers quick and clear access to the entire course catalog, organized into areas such as Arts and Humanities, Health Sciences, Social and Legal Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, and multidisciplinary studies. “We’ve created a space where information is easy to find, with intuitive navigation, well-structured content, and a subject-based search engine,” he added.

Each course includes a detailed information sheet with all relevant information: course director (with a direct contact option), price, number of instructional hours, ECTS credits, modules, and specific content.

“This platform not only serves those who wish to continue their education but also represents added value for companies, which can now keep their teams’ knowledge constantly updated,” he concluded.
