Representatives from six countries have visited the three possible office locations included in the application file, along with Málaga TechPark and the city centre
A European delegation has travelled to Málaga to get to know first-hand what the city has to offer in its application to host the European Control Association (EUCA). The group is made up of representatives from six countries (Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria), who have visited, over the past two days, the three possible office locations included in the application file, along with Málaga TechPark and the city centre.
The Government of Spain, with the support of the Regional Government of Andalusia and the City Council, submitted Málaga’s application to host EUCA on 27 November. The creation of a European control association is included among the measures of a legislative package presented by the European Commission on 17 May 2023 in order to improve the governance of the Customs Union and serve as a driver and a boost for the proposed reforms.
EUCA’s headquarters will be put to a vote by the co-legislators (the European Council and the European Parliament) in accordance with a transparent and regulated selection procedure based on criteria set out in a public call approved on 16 October. These criteria take into account aspects such as the office locations designated for the headquarters, the city’s digital connectivity and communications, its hotel capacity, and the business and educational ecosystem of the area, among others.
Apart from Málaga, eight other cities have applied: Liège (Belgium), Lille (France), Zagreb (Croatia), Rome (Italy), The Hague (the Netherlands), Warsaw (Poland), Porto (Portugal) and Bucharest (Romania).
