- The Malaga-based alliance focuses on regulatory compliance within the corporate environment
In recent years, financial institutions and corporations across Europe have witnessed a surge in both the sophistication and frequency of financial crimes. Digital fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing have become structural threats, putting the reputation and security of organizations in a tight position.
The 2022-2023 Report from SEPBLAC (Executive Service of the Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Monetary Offenses) indicates that the number of suspicious activity reports increased by 8% in 2023, continuing the upward trend that began in 2022 (+12%).
Breaking down by type of underlying offense, fraud led with a notable 21% rise in 2023 (up 59% compared to 2020), followed by tax offenses (+33%) and participation in criminal organizations (+8%).
Data reported for 2024 shows this upward trend continuing, with 24,320 suspicious activity reports analyzed, compared to 13,854 in 2023 — a 76% year-on-year increase.
These figures reflect a direct impact on customer and investor confidence, placing prevention as a top priority for boards of directors and regulators.
Against this backdrop, OPPLUS and EBÍSUM have formed a strategic alliance aimed at turning regulatory compliance into a powerful shield against financial crime.
The partnership combines OPPLUS’ expertise in managing critical operational processes, from its headquarters in Málaga TechPark, with EBÍSUM’s specialization in compliance and regulatory consulting.
“The increase in financial crime forces organizations to evolve their compliance models. Our alliance with EBÍSUM enables us to offer a response that goes beyond operational efficiency. It’s about protecting companies and providing them with strategic value in the face of risk,” said Pablo Benavides Yanguas, CEO of OPPLUS.
In the area of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) prevention, the collaboration drives the implementation of advanced models for detecting and monitoring suspicious transactions, proactively anticipating risks to reduce vulnerabilities.
It also incorporates systematic sanctions compliance checks (screening and restricted lists) for individuals, companies, and counterparties, along with enhanced document review during client onboarding processes.
Additionally, the deployment of Certified Whistleblowing Channels acts as an internal alert mechanism, strengthening corporate transparency.
Another cornerstone of the alliance is training and education. Through continuous learning programs, teams gain up-to-date knowledge of the latest regulations and emerging threats. This governance-focused approach facilitates the integration of technological solutions that scale compliance controls effectively and efficiently.
“For EBÍSUM, this alliance with OPPLUS represents a strategic step forward in our mission to deliver compliance solutions that not only meet regulatory requirements but also create real value for organizations. By combining our compliance expertise with OPPLUS’ operational capabilities, we provide clients with an integrated, agile, and scalable tool. I am confident that together, we will transform compliance into a driver of efficiency, trust, and competitiveness for both public and private organizations,” stated Rafael Perea Ortega, CEO of EBÍSUM.
This collaboration represents a strategic proposal that strengthens organizations’ ability to combat financial crimes while laying the groundwork for building safer corporate environments.
