The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service has launched a public call for tenders for the construction of Imec’s new semiconductor research centre, which will be located at Málaga TechPark. The call, published in both the Official Journal of the European Union and the Public Sector Procurement Portal, will remain open until 12 March 2026.
The project, part of the Strategic Project for Microelectronics and Semiconductors (PERTE Chip), will involve an investment of €190 million for construction, within the total of €500 million pledged by the Spanish Government. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with the Regional Government of Andalusia and Málaga City Council, with technical coordination provided by the public company Ineco.
The semiconductor centre, which will enable next-generation chip prototyping, will be equipped with cleanrooms, more than 60 advanced processing tools, as well as research and prototyping facilities. Once operational, it is expected to strengthen R&D, foster collaboration with universities and startups, and enhance Spain’s and Europe’s technological competitiveness in strategic sectors such as medicine, photonics or quantum computing.
According to Minister Óscar López, this is “a key initiative for the progress of both Spain and Europe”, with a significant impact on high-quality employment, regional development and the ecological transition. Through this project, Málaga TechPark reinforces its position as a leading hub for technological innovation and advanced research in Spain.
