The International Department of Málaga TechPark visited institutions and companies in Moldova to support the creation of the new ‘Moldova HiTech Park’ science park and explore opportunities for digital and economic cooperation.
Málaga TechPark has carried out an official institutional mission to the Republic of Moldova to share its expertise and reinforce its position as a leading global technology hub. The delegation was led by Sonia Palomo, Director of Technology Transfer and International Relations at Málaga TechPark, who was accompanied by Patricio Baena, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Moldova in Málaga, and Eugeniu Revenco, Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Spain. The primary objective of the visit was to provide guidance and establish synergies with partner institutions for the development of the future ‘Moldova HiTech Park’, a project that has been inspired by the Málaga TechPark model.
Over the course of the three-day international mission, the representative of the Málaga technology park held a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening academic and business partnerships. The agenda included strategic meetings with the leadership of Moldova State University, headed by its Rector, Otilia Dandara, as well as visits to some of the country’s leading innovation facilities, including MediaCor and the Institute of Genetics and Plant Protection. The delegation also gained first-hand insight into the Digital Park ecosystem through a meeting with its Director, Aurelia Salicov. Málaga TechPark met with the park’s management team to present the companies based at the Málaga campus and identify direct opportunities for collaboration between the two innovation ecosystems.
The institutional significance and economic impact of the mission were further reflected in the meetings held with the country’s highest government authorities. The delegation participated in a joint working session with representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, the Minister of Culture, Dan Suruceanu, and the management team of the Organisation for Entrepreneurship Development. The delegation subsequently met with Roman Cojuhari, Director of the Public Property Agency, to discuss the next steps required to support ‘Inno Park USM’, its integration into Moldova’s economic and digital development policies, and the interinstitutional coordination needed to ensure the project’s successful implementation. The programme concluded with visits to Tracon Industrial Park and StarNet, a leading ICT business group.
The importance of this mission highlights Málaga TechPark’s role not only as an economic driver but also as a leading geostrategic partner capable of inspiring countries such as Moldova at a pivotal moment in their history. As an official candidate for accession to the European Union and currently undergoing a process of integration and modernisation, the Republic of Moldova views the Málaga ecosystem as a proven model of stability, public-private collaboration and innovation. This transfer of knowledge will enable the country to accelerate its digital transformation, attract high-value investment and strengthen its alignment with Europe’s technological and economic standards.
Through initiatives of this scale, Málaga TechPark demonstrates that its capacity to drive innovation extends far beyond the local and national borders, serving as a beacon of excellence for high-value projects across Europe. Today, the technology park is home to more than 719 companies, generating annual revenues in excess of €4.8 billion and providing employment for more than 29,000 professionals. As a result, Málaga TechPark has established itself not only as a state-of-the-art campus but also as a premium innovation ecosystem and a global hub, connected directly with more than 200 cities worldwide, where talent, investment and quality of life come together to lead Europe’s technological transformation.
