Málaga TechPark strengthens ties with Antequera’s business and institutional community to explore avenues for collaboration, connecting the Park’s innovation with initiatives such as the development of the ‘Puerto Seco’
Málaga TechPark has successfully hosted its Innovation Ecosystem Presentation Day, a strategic event that brought together around fifty business leaders and institutional representatives from the city of Antequera at The Green Lemon building. The initiative provided an opportunity to identify genuine synergies between the technology ecosystem and the industrial sector, reinforcing the role of Málaga’s technopolis as a cutting-edge environment that is key to regional growth.
In this way, the Málaga technopolis continues to strengthen its ties with Antequera’s business and institutional community through a working session that explored avenues for joint projects, connecting the Park’s innovation with the development of initiatives such as the ‘Puerto Seco’. Organised as part of the collaboration agreement between the Park and the Antequera City Council, the meeting helped advance an integrated model of provincial growth based on public-private collaboration and aimed at attracting leading technology projects to southern Europe.
The event began with an institutional welcome featuring remarks from Manolo Barón, Mayor of Antequera, and Felipe Romera, Managing Director of Málaga TechPark.
During his speech, Mayor Manolo Barón stressed that the main purpose of the meeting was to give Antequera’s business community a first-hand understanding of what Málaga TechPark is, what activities are carried out there, how it operates, and what opportunities for collaboration could emerge from this point onwards. In this regard, he said that the event would make it possible to “understand what the technology park is, what is being developed there, how it is being developed, what we can learn, and what we can bring together.”
Barón also highlighted that the basis for the collaboration established between Antequera and Málaga TechPark is clear: “to join forces.” The Mayor praised the success of Málaga TechPark’s model, which is currently at full occupancy, and said that Antequera wants to achieve the same level of growth and collaboration. He emphasised that this initiative is about shared aspirations between Málaga TechPark, the Regional Government of Andalusia, the University of Málaga, and all the institutions involved.
The meeting then turned its attention to the development of the Antequera ‘Puerto Seco’. The opportunities for this major-scale project were presented in detail by Paul Lafargue, Development Director for Europe at IDEC Group, and Maite Palomino, Business Development Director for Spain at the same organisation.
The programme continued with a panel discussion where Málaga TechPark’s impact was examined in depth. The panel featured Lourdes Cruz, Investment Attraction Director at Málaga TechPark; Eduardo Valencia, Director of Innova IRV Foundation; Javier López, Director of UMA innTech Office; and Antonio Gómez Guillamón, CEO of Aertec and President of Málaga TechPark Execs club.
At the end of the meeting, the Mayor of Antequera took the opportunity to announce that Antequera City Council would apply to become a collaborating entity of the Innova IRV Foundation.
Finally, attendees were able to experience the vitality and scale of the Park first-hand through a tour of its facilities, gaining insight into the operations of major international technology companies such as DEKRA, Accenture, TDK and Altra. Alongside these companies, a further 700 businesses are based at Málaga TechPark, employing more than 29,000 professionals. Together, this business community generates annual turnover of more than €4.8 billion.
