The event, which will take place on 25 January at Málaga TechPark starting at 10 a.m., has achieved unprecedented success, with more than 1,750 people already registered. The organisation aims to reach 2,000 participants during the final week
Málaga TechPark will host next Sunday, 25 January, starting at 10 a.m., the fourth edition of “Málaga, Up and Running Against Cancer”, the Business Race held in support of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Málaga. This initiative reinforces the park’s role as an ecosystem where innovation, business activity and people’s wellbeing go hand in hand. All registration proceeds will be allocated to funding oncologic research projects and to maintaining the programmes and services that the association provides free of charge to cancer patients and their families.
These services include psychological support, social worker assistance, physiotherapy, speech therapy and nutrition services, physical exercise workshops, as well as the residential apartments for oncologic patients who need to travel to Málaga to undergo treatment. Together, these initiatives aim to provide comprehensive support, addressing both the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families.
The press conference was attended by Carmen Litrán, Provincial Manager of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Málaga; Felipe Romera, CEO of Málaga TechPark; Mar Torres, Councillor for Citizen Participation, Migration, External Action, Development Cooperation, Transparency and Good Governance, and Head of the Campanillas District; and Franck Daniel León Guenerie, Project Manager of Internal Transformation at Vodafone Business, the event’s main sponsor.
Felipe Romera, CEO of Málaga TechPark, highlighted that “initiatives such as ‘Up and Running Against Cancer’ reflect the community model we promote at the park: an innovative and competitive environment that is also deeply committed to people, their wellbeing and quality of life.”
On behalf of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, its Málaga manager, Carmen Litrán, thanked the City Council, its Sports Department, and the Regional Government of Andalusia for their support through Málaga TechPark, and underlined the Association’s objectives for this year. “The Up and Running Against Cancer race is once again a major meeting point for solidarity and community commitment in Málaga. At the Spanish Association Against Cancer, we work every day to reach more people, strengthening prevention, supporting patients and their families, and promoting research. That is why we would like to especially thank Málaga TechPark, Málaga’s City Council and all the sponsoring companies, whose support allows this initiative to keep growing year after year. We invite all citizens to take part because every step counts and, together, we move towards our shared goal of reaching a 70% of cancer survival rate by 2030.”
For another year, the race reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and is once again aligned with the City Council’s “Malaga, cómo te quiero!?” programme. The event is set within an environment designed to encourage healthy habits, responsible mobility and coexistence, promoting environmentally responsible decision-making and the active participation of citizens, businesses, and associations to ensure the event is as sustainable as possible.
In addition to the collaboration of Málaga City Council, the race is sponsored by Vodafone Business as the main sponsor, along with Málaga TechPark companies such as Opplus, Iris Global and EY GDS as silver sponsors, together with the company Mi Colchón. Alquimia and Caser take part as bronze sponsors.
Race route and additional activities
The event will also include a pre-race warm-up session for participants led by professionals from David Lloyd gym. For younger participants, a special area with face painting and children’s entertainment will be set up, managed by a team of educators who will organise games and activities, ensuring a fun space for families.
Last edition brought together more than 800 participants along the route through Málaga TechPark. With just one week remaining before the registrations close, this year’s success is already guaranteed, with 1,750 people registered to date, consolidating the race as one of the park’s flagship charitable events. The organisation’s goal for this final week is to reach the maximum of 2,000 participants.
As a new feature this year, the race will offer three different routes. The first is a competitive 10-kilometre race, with trophies awarded to the top three finishers in both the men’s and women’s categories. First-place finishers in each category will also receive a Viceroy watch, donated by the jeweller Joyería Luján. The top three in the men’s category will receive a basket of avocados and mangoes from the company Sigfrido, while the top three in the women’s category will be awarded a set of cosmetic products from Silvia Moreno. The second route is a non-timed 5-kilometre race aimed at families and participants who prefer not to compete. The third one is a 100-metre race for children who also wish to take part and enjoy a starring role for the day.
The route, designed specifically for the occasion, will start and finish at Plaza Alei within Málaga TechPark and will run through the park’s streets. Registrations can be completed via the official link up to one day before the event or until the full capacity is reached. Registration for the timed race includes fruit, water, a race number and runner’s insurance, thanks to the collaboration of Solán de Cabras, Rosaleda Shopping Centre and Casa Kiki, which will provide 600 “palmeras” or sweets to be distributed among participants, as well as Café Santa Cristina, which will set up a hot drinks stand at the starting line.
