  • This annual event aims to bring together the most influential and visionary minds in the photonics sector worldwide

A landmark for the technology industry: Málaga emerges as a global epicenter with the celebration of the Global Photonics Economic Forum. Marking its 1st edition on October 1st and 2nd, this annual event aims to bring together the most influential and visionary minds in the photonics sector worldwide. With the ambitious goal of turning Andalusia and, especially, Málaga into the ‘Silicon Valley of Europe,’ the forum is arranged as a launching platform for innovation and technological development in the south of Europe.

In the words of the Minister of Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue, and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz: “The celebration of this event confirms that Andalusia is already a referent for technology companies. Our land is synonymous with talent, business, and opportunities for the sector.”

Thus, the Minister of Innovation, Digitalization, and Investment Attraction of the Málaga City Council, Alicia Izquierdo, has highlighted that “bringing this important event to Málaga represents a unique opportunity for companies and the entire innovation ecosystem of the city, the province, and, of course, Andalusia. With this initiative, we continue to strengthen the potential of technological Málaga to attract talent, investment, and generate qualified employment.”

This initiative is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Málaga City Council, through Promálaga, the Digital Agency of Andalusia, Málaga TechPark, and Optica, a leading global organization in the promotion of optics and photonics, which currently has more than 24,000 members from industry and academia.

The forum will take place at FYCMA (Trade Fairs & Congress Center of Málaga), guaranteeing an exceptional environment for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and the creation of collaboration opportunities. Aimed at executives, innovators, politicians, and investors in the field of optics and photonics, the forum will address crucial topics such as sectoral sustainability and current geopolitical challenges.

The agenda includes distinguished speakers from the world of photonics such as Kenny Wilson, CEO of Jabil; John T.C. Lee, President and CEO of MKS Instruments; Chuck Mattera, President and CEO of Coherent; Al Kapoor, President of Syntec Optics; Bruno Sanglé-Ferrière, CEO of Carrousel Digital; Sven Kiontke, CEO of asphericon; Jimena García-Romeu, CEO of Alcyon Photonics; Richard Oberreiter, Managing Director of Hamamatsu; Jean-François Morizur, CEO of CAILabs; Carlos Pardo, CEO of KDPOF; Aleksandra Boskovic, VP of Corning; Atul Sinha, entrepreneur; Robert Harrison, CEO of SONNENBERG HARRISON; or James Watt, Vice President of Nokia.
