Málaga TechPark and Antequera City Council are planning a major event in mid-June aimed at connecting Malaga’s innovation ecosystem with Antequera’s logistics and industrial network
Málaga TechPark, Antequera City Council and the University of Málaga, through its UMA innTech initiative, recently held another meeting focused on strengthening the technological coordination across the province and consolidating the strategic alliance between Málaga TechPark and Antequera. This institutional and business alliance is designed to foster innovation and technology transfer between companies operating in both industrial areas, thereby strengthening Andalusia’s R&D and innovation ecosystem while leveraging the significant logistics potential of the Antequera Dry Port.
In this context, the mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón, emphasised the importance of “uniting Andalusia’s logistical heart with Southern Spain’s technological brain,” in reference to the strategic collaboration between Antequera City Council and Málaga TechPark.
Málaga TechPark General Director Felipe Romera also highlighted the value of this regional integration: “The consolidation of this alliance shows that innovation doesn’t have geographical limitations. Our goal is to expand the Park’s ecosystem so that Malaga’s technological businesses and Antequera’s powerful industrial network can develop joint projects.”
Participation from the region’s main economic drivers
The latest working session was led by the mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón; deputy mayor and representative of Tourism, Commerce and Cultural Heritage, Ana Cebrián; city councillor and representative of Employment Policies, Activities and Industrial Estates, Paqui Sánchez; director of IDEC Group Iberica, Maite Palomino; head of Institutional Relations at Málaga TechPark, Natalia Pérez; University of Málaga’s vice chancellor of Technological Innovation and Strategic Projects, Javier López.
The meeting was also supported by the active participation of key economic drivers of the region, represented by the Association of Property Owners of the Antequera Industrial Park, ACEM Antequera (Young Entrepreneurs Association), ACIA (Association of Commerce and Industry of Antequera), as well as representatives of the Málaga Confederation of Business Owners.
Striving to create real advancements and business opportunities from this network, the organisations have announced that they will hold another meeting in mid-June. This will play a key role in bringing Málaga TechPark’s innovation ecosystem closer to companies based in Antequera, generating new networking opportunities that bring potential partnerships to light and encourage strategic alliances between the university, the public administration and the local industry.
This step is a continuation of a collaborative journey that originated with a formal agreement between Málaga TechPark and Antequera City Council, signed by the mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón and Carolina España, Málaga TechPark’s president and Andalusia’s Regional Minister of Economy, Finance and European Funds.
The four-year agreement was recently strengthened by a business forum entitled ‘Málaga TechPark-Antequera Alliance: Strategic Partnership of the Future’, in which institutional and corporate leaders established the foundations for joint technological projects in high-growth sectors such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, the aerospace industry and the FoodTech sector.
Talent and training
In addition, the organisations have agreed to create a working group dedicated entirely to talent and training. This initiative will unite the University of Málaga with companies from the logistics and industrial sectors to allow UMA innTech to analyse first-hand which types of professionals are currently needed in the labour market.
Based on this analysis, the university will work with businesses to jointly develop initiatives aligned with those needs, transferring knowledge and helping retain talent in strategic, high-value industries.
With the implementation of these new ventures, Málaga TechPark continues to expand its network of alliances beyond the capital, demonstrating a proven success model based on public-private collaboration.
Overall, the initiative reinforces Málaga’s position as one of the key drivers of technology, industry and logistics in Southern Europe, successfully connecting the vitality of its urban ecosystems with the enormous productive potential of the wider province.
