- The Ministry of Industry and Tourism awarded a total of 40. 6 Million, of which 18.9 million have been mobilized by the companies and projects in collaboration with the Ricardo Valle Foundation
The Ministry of Industry and Tourism has announced the provisional allocation of 40.6 million euros to seven projects submitted in the second call of the PERTE Chip, within the section for promoting projects in the microelectronics value chain.
The companies within the Innova IRV ecosystem have managed to mobilize almost half of these funds, a total of 18.9 million euros, distributed among Vodafone Intelligent Solutions España, Tecnologías, Servicios Telemáticos y Sistemas (TST), and Sensing & Control Systems (S&C).
Among the awarded projects, the one that secured the most funding—13.9 million euros—was Vodafone Intelligent Solutions España, based in Málaga, which aims to develop an open chip architecture.
The SINAPTIX project, led by Sensing & Control Systems (S&C), has received 2.1 million euros and benefits from the collaboration of the Innova IRV Foundation for the study of open-source RISC-V core IPs. Its goal is to design an ultra-tiny, low-power processor based on the RISC-V architecture, optimizing both energy efficiency and occupied space.
These types of processors are particularly useful in small, low-power devices such as smart sensors, wearables, medical devices, and automation systems.
Asimismo, Tecnologías, Servicios Telemáticos y Sistemas (TST) participa en el proyecto RHEIN-MMIC, cuya adjudicación asciende a los 2,9 millones de euros. Este proyecto se centra en el desarrollo de dispositivos RF MMIC integrados con núcleos RISC-V para aplicaciones de comunicaciones de alta eficiencia energética e integración heterogénea.
Additionally, Tecnologías, Servicios Telemáticos y Sistemas (TST) is involved in the RHEIN-MMIC project, which has been awarded 2.9 million euros. This project focuses on the development of RF MMIC devices integrated with RISC-V cores for high-energy-efficiency communication applications and heterogeneous integration.
This is key for applications such as 5G networks, satellites, IoT, and advanced telecommunications.
With the allocation of these projects, Innova IRV has mobilized over 650 million euros in microelectronics-related initiatives since its creation, solidifying its position as a leader in this strategic sector.
Among the most notable achievements, the Foundation actively collaborated in attracting the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) to Málaga, one of the global leaders in semiconductor and nanoelectronics research.
President of Innova IRV, Ezequiel Navarro, has emphasized the significance of these awards: “The arrival of these projects is key to continuing the development of a microelectronics ecosystem from Innova IRV, which will allow us to consolidate the potential of our companies in the semiconductor market and attract more specialized capabilities and talent.”
“We are building a technological infrastructure that will not only drive innovation but also strengthen our global competitiveness. This is a fundamental step towards becoming a strategic hub within the chip industry, strengthening collaboration between companies, research centers, and universities,” said Navarro.
These allocations add to the commitments made by the three state administrations to IMEC (615 million euros) and the chip chairs, which have brought over 17 million euros to Andalusian universities for the training of PhDs in semiconductors.
