- Renowned British weekly names the tech park as one of the key drivers behind the city’s economic rise
Málaga is once again in the international spotlight. The Economist, one of the world’s most influential economic publications, has published a feature on the city’s growth and transformation, explicitly highlighting the role of Málaga TechPark as a cornerstone of its technological and industrial development.
In the article titled “Picasso’s home town is thriving”, published on June 12, the weekly outlines how Málaga has gone from being a neglected industrial city to becoming a benchmark for innovation and quality of life in Southern Europe.
Within this context, the tech park is described as “a cluster of buildings in a nearby valley” that hosts global companies such as Accenture, Ericsson, Google, and Vodafone, alongside a growing ecosystem of startups.
The Economist highlights that Málaga TechPark now employs nearly 28,000 people and continues to expand, with increasing specialization in strategic fields such as cybersecurity, video games, and microelectronics.
“Founded in 1992 as a joint initiative between public administrations and financial institutions, the park has evolved into an international benchmark for technological development, talent attraction, and investment,” the article states.
“This transformation has contributed to Málaga’s positioning as one of the most dynamic cities in Southern Europe, not just in tourism, but also in innovation and the knowledge economy,” it adds.
The publication by The Economist adds to other recent milestones that place the city and its technology park firmly on the global innovation map. Málaga TechPark continues to work toward consolidating its leadership as an international tech hub, serving business, knowledge, and society.
