- The initiative, promoted by UMA innTech together with Málaga TechPark and INNOVA IRV, highlights the potential of 21 groups
The University of Málaga has released its Research and Innovation in Artificial Intelligence Capability Statement through the UMA innTech Office. The initiative aims to showcase the work of 21 research groups and to facilitate connections with companies, administrations and organisations interested in developing AI-driven solutions.
The statement is now available online on the UMA innTech website, where the University of Málaga’s research capacity in this strategic field is presented in a structured manner.
This strategic project is part of the AI Co-Innovation Lab, promoted by UMA innTech in collaboration with Málaga TechPark and the INNOVA IRV Foundation. The statement outlines the main lines of research, application areas and results of groups belonging to five UMA faculties and schools. These groups cover disciplines such as computer engineering, telecommunications and artificial intelligence applied to health, law, medical imaging, and music education.
Altogether, these research groups have led more than 700 projects and research contracts since their inception. Over the past three years alone, this activity has generated over €50 million in AI-related global funding. These figures demonstrate the high level of specialisation and the transversal nature of the University of Málaga’s research ecosystem in this field.
Collaboration opportunities
The statement was presented on 14 January to the Executive Committee of the INNOVA IRV Foundation and will also be disseminated through the Foundation’s AI Commission. In addition, UMA innTech has launched an outreach campaign targeting companies and organisations to foster new collaboration opportunities.
According to Javier López, Delegate of the Rector for Technological Innovation and Director of UMA innTech, “very few universities nationwide offer such a level of potential. That is why the time had come to highlight its importance and bring it together, so that both the productive sector and society as a whole can become aware of it.”
This statement pursues a dual objective: on the one hand, to give visibility to AI research talent at the University of Málaga; on the other, to build a direct bridge between the university and society, connecting scientific-technical knowledge with today’s major social, digital, and business challenges.
