- The event, organized by the Regional Ministry of Economy, Finance, and European Funds through Andalucía TRADE, was held in collaboration with Málaga TechPark, the Center for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), and the Enterprise Europe Network (ENN). It aimed to provide information on the Horizon Europe (HE) partnership and the Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU)
On Tuesday morning, Málaga TechPark hosted the information session “Horizon Europe: Chips Joint Undertaking,” a key event for developing the semiconductor ecosystem within the tech park. The initiative, organized by Andalucía TRADE in collaboration with CDTI and EEN, brought together over fifty experts, companies, and research centers interested in exploring opportunities for the semiconductor-related projects.
The event was part of Málaga TechPark’s strategy to position itself as a key hub in the semiconductor industry, attracting investment and driving innovation. The park’s commitment to this strategic area reinforces its role within the European tech ecosystem and positions Andalusia as a chip design and manufacturing benchmark.
A prime example of this commitment is the establishment of a second site of the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) at Málaga TechPark, an internationally recognized location. This highlights the strong institutional collaboration at multiple levels and enhances cooperation between international organizations, public institutions, and the business ecosystem to transform this opportunity into a reality.
The event included a session on collaboration opportunities with IMEC, led by Thomas Kallstenius, Director of Corporate Strategy at the renowned European research center, which is set to open its first site outside Belgium in Málaga. His presentation emphasized the potential of international synergies to strengthen the semiconductor sector in Málaga and Andalusia.
Andalusian competitiveness
Remarks were also delivered by Felipe Romera Lubias, General Director of Málaga TechPark, and Rocío Muñoz Maestre, Director of Business Development and Value Support at Andalucía TRADE.
“The development of the semiconductor industry at Málaga TechPark will allow us to connect with key international funding and collaboration opportunities. We are committed to positioning Málaga as a leader in this sector,” said Romera.
Muñoz highlighted the promising moment Andalusia is experiencing in terms of technological growth through initiatives like this. “The Chips Joint Undertaking is a unique opportunity for Andalusia’s business ecosystem to access European funds and boost its innovative capabilities. At Andalucía TRADE, we will continue supporting companies and research centers to take full advantage of these programs and strengthen their global competitiveness,” she stated.
CDTI collaboration
Another highlight of the event was the presentation by Enrique Pelayo Campillos, CDTI’s National Contact Point. He detailed the goals and priorities of the Chips Joint Undertaking program and the current open calls for project funding. His session included key recommendations for proposal development, providing attendees with practical guidance on accessing these investment opportunities.
After the presentation, bilateral meetings with CDTI allowed participants to analyze their projects in depth and clarify questions regarding funding and collaboration. The session helped strengthen ties across Andalusia’s semiconductor ecosystem and foster new strategic alliances.
