Yesterday, a strategic working meeting between the University of Málaga, through its Innovation and Technological Collaboration Office (UMA innTech), and the Ricardo Valle Innovation Institute Foundation (INNOVA IRV) was held in the facilities of Accenture at Málaga TechPark. The purpose of this meeting was to advance the creation of a Co-Innovation Laboratory focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The gathering brought together around twenty researchers from the University of Málaga, including representatives who will participate in the AMETIC Artificial Intelligence Committee with other research groups with a strong track record in applied AI research. This co-innovation initiative aims to establish a collaborative space where science, technology, and industry come together to address key AI challenges from an interdisciplinary and applied perspective.
Javier López, the Rector’s Delegate for Technological Innovation, opened the session by providing context for the initiative within the framework of UMA’s collaboration with INNOVA IRV. He outlined the main objectives and challenges of setting up this laboratory. Toni de la Prieta, Vice President of Artificial Intelligence at INNOVA IRV and Director of Accenture’s Advanced Technologies Center, followed the session by presenting several types of collaborative projects in which UMA’s research groups could participate, highlighting their potential for real-world industry impact.
After all the presentations, a participatory dialogue session allowed professors and researchers to raise questions, share concerns, and explore potential paths for collaboration within the laboratory’s framework. The exchange of perspectives highlighted the diversity of approaches and the high scientific and technological potential active in the UMA’s research community.
This meeting represents a significant step in consolidating Málaga as a leading hub for technological innovation, particularly in the responsible and strategic development of Artificial Intelligence. The AI Co-Innovation Laboratory is envisioned as an open space for public-private collaboration, the promotion of local talent, and the creation of solutions aligned with current and future challenges.
