- A survey of 27 companies from the technopolis, representing 33% of the workforce, shows that 94% of the employees reside within the province of Málaga
Málaga TechPark has conducted a data collection initiative between companies within the park to determine the main places of residence of its workforce.
The results came from a survey carried out between January and March 2025, covering 27 companies from the technopolis. These companies collectively employ 8,623 people, representing 33% of Málaga TechPark’s total workforce of 27,940 employees.
A diverse range of companies participated in the study, including large multinational corporations, local SMEs, startups, and recently established foreign companies.
One of the main study insights is that most Málaga TechPark employees (94%) live within the province of Málaga. Of the remaining 6%, 4% live in other Andalusian provinces, with a significant number residing in Granada, Cádiz, and Córdoba. The remaining 2% live outside Andalusia, primarily in Madrid.
Cruz de Humilladero District stands out among Málaga residents
Within the province, 59% of employees live in the capital. The Cruz de Humilladero district is the most common, home to 11% of all surveyed employees. The rest of the workforce lives in areas such as Carretera de Cádiz (9%), Bailén-Miraflores (7%), and Málaga Este and the city center, each with 7%.
The remaining 31% of employees are distributed in:
- Western Costa del Sol (13%)
- Guadalhorce Valley (10%)
- Eastern Costa del Sol (7%)
- Other provinces (4%)
For the first time, Málaga TechPark has gathered more detailed information on the municipalities outside the city. The percentages of employees in other regions of the province are:
- Serranía de Ronda (1.40%)
- Antequera (1.24%)
- Guadalteba (0.81%)
- Northeastern region (0.56%)
- Sierra de las Nieves (0.24%)
The municipalities with the highest percentage of employees are:
- Rincón de la Victoria (3.8%)
- Torremolinos (3.8%)
- Alhaurín de la Torre (3.2%)
- Cártama (3.2%)
- Benalmádena (3.1%)
- Mijas (2%)
When comparing the 2024 results to previous studies (2008, 2018, 2019, and 2023), Málaga city hosts the largest number of residents. However, there has been a gradual decline over the past 15 years, with an increasing number of employees living in other municipalities across the province.
