- An initiative of the European DiTwin project to drive innovation in Vocational Education and Training through digital twin technologies
From July 14 to 18, 2025, Málaga hosted the DiTwin Transnational Training Course, a key initiative of the European DiTwin project, with Málaga TechPark as one of its main partners. The event brought together Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers, technology specialists, and project partners from Spain, Ireland, Italy, Poland, and Greece.
Co-organised by the University of Málaga (UMA) and Málaga TechPark, the training took place primarily at the School of Industrial Engineering, following an opening ceremony at UMA’s Rectorate. Over five intensive days, participants explored how digital twins can be applied to both education and industrial processes in the context of Industry 4.0.
A week of hands-on learning and international collaboration
The programme combined expert talks with practical sessions, including:
· Workshops on robotics and remote programming
· Live demonstrations of 3D printing and smart automation
· Technical visits to the UMA Robotics Lab
· Round-table discussions with representatives from education and industry, focused on real-world applications of digital twin technologies
The week also included internal meetings of the DiTwin consortium, where members reviewed project progress and mapped out the next stages of development.
Bringing innovation to vocational education
DiTwin is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme and aims to modernise Vocational Education and Training across Europe by developing virtual laboratories powered by digital twins. The project especially targets schools and institutions that lack access to advanced physical infrastructure for technical training.
In this framework, DiTwin promotes cross-border collaboration, the creation of adaptable teaching resources, and the adoption of innovative methods that align with the evolving needs of the European labour market.
Looking Ahead
The course concluded with a final review session, where participants shared feedback and reflected on the week’s outcomes. All agreed on the importance of initiatives like DiTwin in
fostering international cooperation, sharing best practices, and advancing the integration of cutting-edge technologies in vocational education.
