COIT-AORM and AITA held an all-day event dedicated to innovation, talent and professional recognition, beginning with a technical session at Google and concluding with a gala dinner at Malaga Cruise Port
The 22nd Telecommunications Night was held on 22 May and organised by the Official Association of Telecommunications Engineers of Eastern Andalusia and Melilla (COIT-AORM) and the Andalusian Association of Telecommunications Engineers (AITA). The event achieved a high level of participation, bringing together more than 230 attendees, further consolidating its position as one of the leading annual gatherings for the technology sector in Malaga and Andalusia.
This year’s edition once again featured an all-day programme combining knowledge-sharing, networking and professional recognition, starting with the Technical Conference held in Google’s Centre of Excellence for Cybersecurity in Malaga. During the session, companies, professionals and institutions shared projects, technological solutions and insights into the current challenges facing the sector. This first part of the event provided a space for interaction between technology companies, engineers, key institutional representatives and agents in the Andalusian digital ecosystem.
In the evening, proceedings moved to Malaga Cruise Port, a prime seaside location, where the gala dinner and award ceremony took place. The evening brought together members of professional associations, technology companies, representatives of public administrations, universities and partner organisations, reinforcing the Telecommunications Night as a key meeting point for the sector.
During the dinner, outstanding professionals were recognised for their contributions and achievements. One of the most moving moments of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award to José Luis Casado, former dean of the Association and a professional with extensive experience in the telecommunications sector, whose distinguished career included senior roles at leading companies such as Citesa. The award was presented by the mayor of Malaga, Francisco de la Torre, who concluded the evening with a speech in which he highlighted the value of the Association’s work, the importance of the telecommunications sector and the prize-winners’ contributions to social and technical development.
Amongst this edition’s prize-winners was also AERTEC, recognised as an established company thanks to its contribution to the technology sector and its international impact. Likewise, Javier Santaolalla, telecommunications engineer, physicist and science communicator, was awarded for his work helping bring science, technology and engineering to a wider audience through rigorous, accessible and impactful communication.
Additionally, Bioherent was recognised as an advancing company, highlighting the innovative talent emerging from Malaga’s universities and technology sector. The evening also dedicated a special moment to academic awards, with recognition to Daniel Eliot-Iolani García Fernández, who received the CompanyOn-COIT Prize for the best Final-Year Project in the Integrated Master’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering at the ETSI Telecommunications School of the University of Malaga, for his work entitled, “5G Slicing Management Evaluation Platform in V2X Environments”. The award for the best doctoral thesis went to Carlos Pérez Armenta for his work, “Advanced periodic topologies for next-generation silicon photonics”.
Ainoa Celaya, dean of COIT-AORM and president of AITA, emphasised during the event that “the Telecommunications Night is more than a gala dinner, it is a demonstration of the talent, capacity for innovation and strength of the telecommunications sector in Malaga and Andalusia”. Celaya also highlighted that “the success of this year’s edition, with more than 230 attendees, confirms that the sector is dynamic, well-connected and prepared to face the major challenges of digital transformation”.
The 22nd Telecommunications Night was supported by sponsoring companies and partner organisations, whose contributions were key to the success of this edition, which stood out for its high-quality content and strong attendance from businesses and institutions.
Through this year’s edition, COIT-AORM and AITA have reinforced their commitment to the promotion of telecommunications engineering, showcasing technological talent and creating opportunities that foster collaboration amongst professionals, businesses, universities and public administrations.
