The 10-kilometre competition stood out for its high level and excellent organisation, in a day marked by strong child participation, new this year, and solidarity
Last Sunday, Málaga TechPark hosted a mass sports event on the occasion of the “Up and Running Against Cancer” charity run’s fourth edition, achieving unprecedented success by reaching its maximum of 2,000 participants. Organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Málaga, the event has consolidated its status as one of the most prominent sports event on the city’s charity calendar. In addition, the event held deep emotional significance, since runners could customise their race numbers and dedicate their run to friends or family affected by cancer, an initiative that added an extra layer of meaning and emotion to the day.
Runners from all levels, families and members of the general public gathered in a festive and participatory atmosphere. The large presence of children, especially during the children’s run, once again highlighted the family-oriented nature of the event, designed to enjoy sport outdoors and encourage participation from an early age.
The race featured three routes: a 10-kilometre competition, a non-timed 5-kilometre race, and a 100-metre children’s run. The main distance showcased a high level of athletic performance, with strong participation and a tightly contested final ranking. Runners praised both the route and the organisation.
The Spanish Association Against Cancer emphasised that the initiative aims to promote healthy lifestyles, including sports and preventive practices, while raising funds entirely dedicated to supporting the free programmes and services the organisation offers in Málaga to patients and families, as well as to fostering cancer research.
Carmen Litrán, regional manager of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Málaga, highlighted that “this edition’s high participation and strong athletic level reflect citizens’ and businesses’ commitment to a race that combines sport, health, and solidarity. Seeing this event grow each year and being enjoyed by families is extremely gratifying for the Association.”
Felipe Romera, head of Málaga TechPark, stated: “Participating in initiatives such as this charity run against cancer reflects Málaga TechPark’s commitment to both society and our business community. Beyond encouraging physical wellbeing, these gatherings allow our teams to share ideas, strengthen bonds, and experience together the energy of a dynamic and collaborative ecosystem. In this way, sport becomes a driver of innovation, made even more meaningful when it supports a cause that has a real impact on society, such as the work of the Spanish Association Against Cancer.”
Organisation, Support and Contributors
The organisation would like to thank Málaga City Council, particularly the Sports Department, and Málaga TechPark for their support, as well as the sponsoring and contributing companies. Vodafone Business was the main sponsor; Opplus, Iris Global, EY GDS, and Mi Colchón were silver sponsors; and Alquimia and Caser were bronze sponsors.
Special thanks also go to David Lloyd, who led the pre-race warm-up, and to Solán de Cabras, Rosaleda Shopping Centre, Casa Kiki, and Café Santa Cristina for their participation, as well as the volunteers, whose work was essential to the smooth running of the event.
