Torsa, company based in Málaga TechPark, awarded by the largest mining company in the world

The occupational safety and health technology developed by Torsa has been recognized by the Anglo-Australian company BHP Billiton.

The largest mining company in the world, BHP Billiton, has awarded the technology of Torsa, company based in Malaga TechPark. Torsa is specialized in the design and production of technological equipment and systems, and has developed an innovative vibration monitoring device  for heavy equipment.

The new system, implanted in Antamina (Peru), considered one of the largest mines in the world, has been the winner in the 2020 “People’s Choice Award” category awarded by BHP Billiton for its value as an innovation in occupational health and safety, as well as for its great contribution to an environment healthier and safer job.

This technology, installed in the trucks of the Peruvian mining exploitation detects and evaluates the vibrations to which the mine vehicle operators are exposed in their work of loading and transporting material. The innovation makes possible to prevent occupational risks by drastically reducing the number of injuries derived from their daily activities.

In addition, to ensuring the correct ergonomics of the operators when driving heavy vehicles, the Torsa system is a vital tool to know the state of deterioration of the mine roads because it generates GPS maps of the area which allows its status to be analyzed and optimized. It so happens that one of the biggest expenses of mining companies is in fuel and truck maintenance, so having tracks in good condition is crucial.
